What is IntimaLase?

IntimaLase is an Er:YAG laser therapy used to tighten the vaginal canal and to treat Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome.

How does IntimaLase work?

IntimaLase requires a narrow handpiece that emits controlled laser energy to induce heating inside the vaginal walls. This controlled heating causes the collagen fibres to contract and stimulates new collagen production in the tissues inside the walls to strengthen them and tighten the canal.

What can I expect from treatment?

During the treatment, a speculum is used to protect the vaginal wall. A narrow laser handpiece is inserted into the speculum to deliver short laser pulses to the vaginal walls from inside the vagina.

Some patients experience mild discomfort, such as a burning or itching feeling, during the treatment, but it is generally tolerated very well. There may be mild swelling after the procedure, followed by a clear discharge for 2-3 days afterward. This is completely normal for this treatment.

There may be some initial tightening of the vaginal tissues, but because collagen takes time to regenerate itself, you may need more than one treatment and results may take some time to become apparent.

Is there any scientific evidence behind this treatment?

Clinical studies indicate 95% of patients reported moderate to strong improvement after treatment. There was also an average of 17% reduction in canal size.
