Obesity is a significant worldwide problem especially in first world countries like Australia and the USA.
Many people are looking for medical treatments to remove fat permanently from different areas of the body however there is little research conducted on the various treatment methods.
Specialist Clinics of Australia is continuously undergoing research and development using modern measurement techniques and tools such as ultrasound scanning equipment to measure skin composition and potentially biopsy in the future.
The aim of this project is to generate evidence-based knowledge for the industry. To achieve this, it is necessary to use appropriate measurement techniques in compliant patients who are able to keep their total body mass and weight stable over a period of time.
Specialist Clinics of Australia is one of the very few clinics in Australia to provide treatment with all three of the latest technologies for permanent fat cell destruction. This project will focus on evaluating the comparative efficacies of the following three treatments:
- Ultrasound fat cell destruction (eg. Ultra-Shape) vs.
- Specific fat freezing (i.e. CoolSculpting) vs.
- Micro-Cannula Liposculpture
The research and development study will compare the three treatment options and continuously asses the treatment methods utilised to obtain the best results.
Data collection analysis includes both treatment parameters and patient variables as follows:
Treatment parameters:
- Treatment type (Coolsculpt, Ultrashape or Liposculpture)
- Treatment settings
- Number of treatments
- Time between treatments
- Patient variables: Size, weight
As this is a long term study, data collection is ongoing across more than one financial year and involves careful consideration and analysis.
